Things I wish I would've learned sooner in my career

Spend as much time as you can working with your mentors. They know more than you because they've screwed up more than you. They won't be around forever.

Building up on that last point...if you want to get good at something fast, just start screwing up faster. Just watch a baby learn to walk. The subjects may change, but the learning process remains the same.

Don't aim for the jobs that exist today. Those didn't exist 10 years ago. Instead, focus on creating your own job. You'll likely fall somewhere in the middle, which will still be way beyond where you first expected.

Pause and plan before you jump into that new project. A lot of people confuse activity with productivity. Don't be one of them.

80% of people out there watch 20% of us have fun. Be part of the 20%, which means getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Listen to your critics, but don't obsess over their opinions of you. They never outlast you. They're likely going to get distracted by the next thing to criticize while they hide from doing the real work. Instead, obsess over the opinions of those that matter, to those in the ring creating new things with you every day. They are worth more than you will ever know.
